PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 16-year-old boy will serve 10 years in youth prison for a gang-related shooting outside a Portland, Oregon, alternative high school that injured four students last December.
The Oregonian reports that the boy pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted murder, assault and unlawful use of a firearm in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
He apologized to families of the victims who attended Rosemary Anderson High School.
Defense attorney Russell Barnett says the evidence doesn't prove his client was the shooter, but he recommended the teen agree to the plea deal to avoid getting more time in prison if convicted.
The boy can be released in 8½ years if he makes changes in prison.
Unlike two other defendants in the shootings, the teen does not have a prior criminal history.
