Sheriff to release documents in death of Down Syndrome man

BALTIMORE (AP) — A judge has ordered a county sheriff's office to release information about the officers involved in the asphyxiation death of a man with Down Syndrome.

The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1HOKhtQ) reported Tuesday that U.S. Magistrate Judge Stephanie A. Gallagher issued the ruling in the case of 26-year-old Ethan Saylor. Saylor died after being forcibly removed from a movie theater by deputies in January 2013.

Attorneys for Saylor's family had requested the personnel files of the three Frederick County Sheriff's Office deputies involved in Saylor's restraint.

The sheriff's office argued that certain information was protected by confidentiality laws, but Gallagher later ruled some of the information should be provided.

Under her ruling, a detailed log of personnel files for the three deputies must be turned over within 30 days.
