AKRON, Ohio (AP) — A former school board president in northeast Ohio has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for having child pornography and obstructing official business.
Officials say 53-year-old Steven Bittel had pleaded guilty last month to 19 charges including pandering obscenity involving a minor, and illegal use of a minor in nudity. The former president of the Nordonia Hills school board was sentenced Wednesday.
Prosecutors in Summit County said Bittel's computer IP address was involved in a peer-to-peer file-sharing network involving child pornography. He was arrested in September after a five-hour standoff with police at his Sagamore Hills home during which he threatened officers with a gun.
He resigned as school board president shortly after his arrest.
