SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Salt Lake City parks will have to wait to get an overhaul after the City Council decided to not ask voters to consider a $100 million general obligation bond on the Nov. 3 ballot.
The council voted 4-3 Tuesday night against the bond.
Mayor Ralph Becker championed the proposal last month, but withdrew his support Tuesday before the vote. In a statement, he says now is not the time for the project, which would have repurposed the closing Glendale and Jordan River Par 3 golf courses and replaced them with active parks, trails and recreation.
The council's decision pushes back Glendale's closure by at least a year.
The program was originally estimated to cost $150 million, but the council failed to pass even a scaled-back program.
