SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Drivers for the ride-hailing company Lyft can now legally pick up passengers at the Salt Lake City International Airport.
Airport officials say the smartphone-powered company completed a permitting process, including airport driving training for drivers and a ride tracking system.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1ihysUv) that competitor Uber is still in negotiations with the airport.
Though the companies used to pick up passengers at the airport, they pulled out about four months ago amid regulatory upheaval.
Salt Lake City mayor Ralph Becker hailed the return of Lyft at a news conference Thursday, saying the airport is now a level transportation playing field.
Traditional taxi companies disagree.
Yellow Club president Mark Hatch says the newer companies an advantage because they don't have to use specialized ground transportation lanes and don't have to obey rate caps.
