PALM BAY, Fla. (AP) — Police fatally shot a man during a domestic situation at his home in central Florida.
Palm Bay police Lt. Mike Bandish tells Florida Today (http://on.flatoday.com/2aNn7eT ) that a woman told 911 dispatchers Tuesday night that her husband was cutting himself and threatening to shoot her.
Bandish says the woman barricaded herself in a bathroom while police were on their way to the home in Palm Bay, which is near Melbourne on Florida's Atlantic coast. She screamed into the phone that her husband was breaking down the door.
SWAT officers heard the woman say she'd been shot so they decided to go in to rescue her. Bandish says the man was shot during ensuing gunfire.
The man's name wasn't released. The woman was taken to the hospital.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate.
