POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Voters in Pocatello in southeast Idaho have chosen to keep in place an ordinance banning discrimination against a person because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
The Idaho State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1npcYRT) that the decision on Tuesday resulted in 4,885 residents voting to keep the ordinance and 4,738 voting to repeal it.
The city council in June approved the ordinance that came under fire and ended up on the ballot on Tuesday.
Some residents contend it's a bad law because it forces business owners to choose between their personal beliefs and their profession.
Brenda Stanley worked to keep the ordinance and says it's a relief that it remains law.
Ralph Lillig worked to repeal the law. He says he's not planning additional attempts now that voters have spoken.
