New superintendent process begins

COLUMBUS, Miss. (AP) — The Columbus Municipal School Board has set a May 30 deadline for applications for superintendent.

The Commercial Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1p9TIcz ) the board hopes to begin interviews in mid-June and have a superintendent by July 1.

Interim superintendent Edna McGill has served as head of the district since June 2013 after superintendent Martha Liddell was fired. Liddell was found to have used district funds to pay for a private party and continued to do consulting work in violation of her contract.

McGill, who retired as an assistant superintendent from the county school district, previously said she was not interested in serving as permanent superintendent. When reached Tuesday, McGill told the newspaper she had not made a final decision on whether she was going to apply for the position.
