LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada School of Medicine is teaming up with a private Las Vegas hospital to develop an expanded residency training program for doctors.
An agreement announced Thursday between the school and MountainView Hospital is being hailed as a way to increase the number of physicians in southern Nevada. Statistics show doctors tend to stay in the areas where they complete their advanced training residency requirements.
Officials say the total program size of 150 resident positions will be developed over a five-year window.
Preliminary discussions have focused on programs in primary care areas of internal medicine, family medicine and geriatrics, as well as surgery, urology, neurology and some other specialties.
A final agreement could be reached by the end of the year, with an expected start in July 2016.
