SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak at Utah Valley University graduation on Thursday.
University officials say that more than 5,000 graduating students and their families will hear from the former Republican presidential candidate during the ceremony in Orem.
UVU President Matthew Holland has said that student leaders asked the university to invite Romney.
Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, is now a Utah resident. Last year, he delivered a religion-focused speech at the nearby Brigham Young University, his alma mater.
The Daily Herald newspaper of Provo reports that a record number of people have tried to get tickets to the Thursday event.
It will also include the awarding of a posthumous honorary degree to former Utah House Speaker Rebecca Lockhart. She died of a rare brain disease in January at age 46.
