NEZPERCE, Idaho (AP) — A California man accused of buying lunch for three jurors tasked with determining his wife's possible guilt in a trial concerning charges of resisting and obstructing an officer is now facing charges himself.
The Lewiston Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/RBuCY2) that 29-year-old Samuel G. Simonis on Tuesday was charged in Magistrate Court in Nezperce with felony perjury and attempting to influence jurors.
Police say that on May 12 Simonis attended jury selection for his wife's trial. During lunch, three of the jurors went to a pizza restaurant.
Police say Simonis didn't talk to the jurors, but he paid for their lunch.
The jurors reported the encounter when they returned to the courthouse. Simonis says he didn't know they were jurors.
Simonis' wife was found guilty and sentenced to 10 days in jail.
