MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A man has been accused of setting a fire that led to a pair of off-duty New Jersey state troopers and another officer rushing in to help rescue a woman.
Morris County prosecutor Fredric Knapp says 23-year-old John Maulbeck Jr. was charged with arson Wednesday. It's unknown if he has an attorney to comment for him.
State police say Troopers Adam Gonzalez and Justin Storie rushed into the burning home Tuesday to help save 51-year-old Josephine Maulbeck. They haven't said if the two Maulbecks are related.
Flanders fire department spokesman Doug Fenichel tells the Daily Record that Mount Olive Officer George Jadue also helped in the rescue.
The three encountered blackout conditions but were able to pull the woman to safety.
Authorities say the troopers, the officer and the woman have been treated at hospitals and released.
