Maine Community College tuition to increase

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Tuition at the Maine Community College System is going up slightly next school year.

The Board of Trustees approved the $2 per credit-hour increase on Wednesday for Maine's seven community colleges. The college system says tuition for full-time, in-state students will rise by $60 next year to $2,700.

The system includes campuses in Auburn, Bangor, Fairfield, Presque Isle, South Portland, Calais and Wells and enrolls more than 18,000 students.

Officials say budgets are very tight because costs continue to rise but state appropriations have remained flat. They say that the schools continue to have the lowest tuition and fees in New England.
