Judge denies reduced sentence for fatal roadside beating

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho judge has denied an Idaho Falls man's request to reduce his sentence for the fatal roadside beating of another man.

The Post Register (http://bit.ly/29E0tmt ) reports that the attorney for 23-year-old Tanner Cox requested on Tuesday that the court shorten Cox's sentence by six months to allow Cox be reviewed for early parole.

However, 7th District Court Judge Bruce Pickett said a lesser sentence would diminish the seriousness of the crime.

Cox received a 10-year sentence in February for involuntary manslaughter in the death of 36-year-old Josh Olzak. Cox must serve two and half years before becoming eligible for parole.

Police say Cox and several other men in two cars chased Olzak and his friend across town last year. Cox punched Olzak, and Olzak died days later from brain swelling.
