WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) — A former payroll manager has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $200,000 from Waterbury's Silas Bronson Library.
Prosecutors tell the Republican-American newspaper (http://bit.ly/1DyRsoG) that 52-year-old Lynette James faces at least 18 months in prison under a plea deal reached Wednesday.
Prosecutors say James told police that she took about $100 a day as a stipend because she felt she was underpaid.
Authorities determined she collected $11,910 in unauthorized stipends over nine years in addition to embezzling $260,000 from the library.
James resigned after her arrest last June. She had worked for the city since 1989 and made a base salary of just under $29,000.
She pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree larceny and faces sentencing on June 26.
