ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — As the summer approaches, the state's health department says the flu is no longer a prevalent issue in New York.
Acting commissioner Howard Zucker says the declaration of the end of flu season means health care workers who are not vaccinated are no longer required by state regulation to wear masks in areas where patients are present.
According to the health department, this year's flu season came in two waves, first in December with influenza A— also known as H1N1— and the second, influenza B in early March through May.
As a result of the two separate waves, flu activity was above what's normally seen.
