Floods swamp Louisville, prompt rescues

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A woman in Louisville, Kentucky, says she awoke today to the sight of boats carrying away her neighbors.

Simone Webster lives in an apartment complex that was surrounded by floodwaters, waist-deep in some places. She says she "didn't know what to do." She and her seven-month-old son were rescued by a man she didn't know, who waded through the floodwaters and then guided her out.

Emergency crews made more than 100 rescues in flooded neighborhoods.

The flooding was caused by severe thunderstorms rumbling across the state. They're blamed for the death of a woman who was camping with her family at a park in east-central Kentucky. A coroner says Catherine Carlson died when a large tree fell on her family's tent.
