FBI warns of tax scam

(KSL News) All the talk of a federal tax rebate probably has you excited, but you're not the only one looking forward to your tax return. FBI officials report there are people out their fishing for the unsuspecting tax payers' information.

Scammers, posing as IRS officials, are calling people at home and asking for Social Security numbers and other personal information, promising to send their refund check.

"Anybody who answers the phone and anybody they think might fall for this. You know they'll try it on anybody," FBI agent Jeff Lanza said.

The IRS warns that if anyone calls or e-mails you asking for personal information over the phone, that's a red flag and should be reported.
