MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot State University and the U.S. Department of Education have reached a settlement over the school's handling of handling of sexual abuse allegations.
The federal agency announced the settlement in connection with the years-long Title IX investigation Thursday.
The department's Office of Civil Rights concluded the university failed to process a complaint brought by a former student who reported that during her time at the school, she had been sexually assaulted for over two years by one of her professors.
Title IX prohibits gender discrimination at schools that receive federal funds. It regulates institutions' handling of sexual violence and increasingly is being used by victims who say their schools failed to protect them.
The university has agreed to offer and pay for counseling and other remedies for the student.
