Edinboro University closing Meadville classrooms

MEADVILLE, Pa. (AP) — State-owned Edinboro University is closing two satellite classrooms in Meadville and will instead offer online higher education and job-training courses to residents of that city.

The Meadville Tribune (http://bit.ly/SY6SyT ) reports Edinboro, in northwestern Pennsylvania, began offering classes in Meadville 14 years ago.

But school officials say the two classrooms in Meadville, about 20 miles south of the university, weren't being fully utilized so the school plans to offer online classes instead.

Meadville residents who prefer a classroom setting will be bused to the university, while job training and other programs offered by Edinboro will be offered through workplaces or other locations.

Edinboro president Julie Wollman says the move is part of the school's "university without walls" approach.
