ELKO, Nev. (AP) — An official says firefighters expect by Wednesday to be able to contain a wildfire burning in dry grass after apparently being sparked by a vehicle on Interstate 80 in northeast Nevada.
Bureau of Land Management spokesman Chris Rose said Monday that no injuries were reported, no structures were threatened and the interstate remained open near the 2.5-square-mile fire.
It started during the weekend next to the interstate in open range near the community of Oasis and State Highway 233. That's about 30 miles west of the Utah state line.
Rose says about 270 firefighters were being aided by air tankers and helicopters fighting the fire in grass and pinyon juniper brush.
The fire was reported to be 40 percent contained late Sunday.
