TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A Florida state official is under investigation following allegations that she ordered state employees to clean up debris for Hurricane Michael at her Georgia home.
The Miami Herald reported Wednesday that the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is investigating Kelley Scott, the department's $120,000-a-year director of administrative services. The DMV confirmed to The Associated Press that its inspector general's office is investigating.
A complaint says Scott ordered three employees to drive a disaster recovery trailer to her Colquitt, Georgia, home nearly an hour away from state offices in Tallahassee on Oct. 18, just eight days after the storm hit the Florida Panhandle. After arriving at the home, the complaint says the workers were recalled to Florida by an unnamed official, but Scott ordered three other employees to clear trees at her home the next day.
