Commissioners of the Land Office distribute education funds

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The state agency that oversees hundreds of thousands of acres of state-owned lands says it has made the second-highest distribution to Oklahoma's public education institutions in the agency's history.

The Commissioner of the Land Office said Thursday that $97.5 million in distributions were made to public schools during the fiscal year that ended June 30. Distributions to all public school and higher education institutions totaled almost $129 million during the year, the agency's second-highest distribution.

State land office officials say that during the past five fiscal years, the agency distributed $649 million to Oklahoma public school and higher education institutions. That's an increase of $264 million over any other five-year period in the state's history.

The agency's permanent investment trust funds increased by $700 million during the same five-year period.
