WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A special recognition ceremony is being held at a West Columbia church to honor the organ, eye and tissue donors who offered life-enhancing or life-saving gifts to others.
Saturday's ceremony is scheduled for the Brookland Baptist Church on Sunset Boulevard.
The event is sponsored by LifePoint, the state-wide organization that is the federally certified organ, eye and tissue procurement organization for South Carolina, except in Aiken and Edgefield counties.
About 500 people are expected to attend to honor their family members and loved ones. A portion of the ceremony also marks LifePoint's 30-year anniversary in the state.
LifePoint has held such ceremonies since the late 1990s, but this will be the first time media has been invited to attend.
