California man pleads guilty in threat to Louisiana school

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a 54-year-old California man has pleaded guilty to sending an online hoax in 2012 that threatened a school massacre in Louisiana.

Randall Swanson, of Sacramento, entered his plea Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Lafayette, telling Judge Richard Haik he was guilty of communicating the threat the day after the deadly Dec. 14, 2012, school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley said in a news release that Swanson followed the online message with photographs and other information about how the crime would occur in Church Point.

Swanson faces up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

Haik did not set a sentencing date.
