Billings hospital cuts jobs, closes daycare

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings says it will cut the equivalent of nearly 84 full-time positions and close its employee child daycare.

The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/29EWMy9 ) that the hospital announced Tuesday that 49 employees will lose their jobs and 24 open positions will be left unfilled. The hospital says about 15 people will transition to other roles at the hospital.

The child care center will remain open for 90 days to give employees time to find a new daycare.

St. Vincent CEO and President Steve Loveless says the cuts were difficult to make because he knows they will impact individuals.

But Loveless says the hospital had to reevaluate how it allocates resources as it focuses on improving patient care and outcomes, resulting in shorter hospital stays.
