ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (AP) — Court documents show a North Carolina man accused of stealing a dog from an animal shelter and dyeing it purple faces several charges, including larceny and cruelty to animals.
The Daily Advance of Elizabeth City (http://bit.ly/1Sqof68 ) reports that documents show 32-year-old Gille Levin Brickhouse was arrested within the past week.
A grand jury indictment says Brickhouse is accused of stealing a white mixed-breed dog from the SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina in June. Hair dye was used to color the dog's coat purple. The indictment also says the dog became malnourished while with Brickhouse.
Court records show the indictment was handed up Sept. 28.
Brickhouse, of Elizabeth City, was held on a $12,000 secured bond. He's due in court Feb. 1. It wasn't clear whether he has an attorney.
