LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — About 500 educators are in Lafayette this week for training as part of Louisiana's Jump Start program, which allows high school students to earn college and career credentials.
The training last five days and is given by industry-certified instructors from high schools, colleges and private firms.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/29VvnZZ) educators who pass a test at the end of the training will be certified to teach welding, carpentry, emergency medical response and other areas.
The gathering, which is called a summer institute, resulted in 510 educators earning certification in the past two years.
Jump Start represents Louisiana's revamped career training program.
