LAS VEGAS (AP) — Two former University of Nevada, Las Vegas employees have been arrested on suspicion of using university credit cards to buy items such as iPods, cameras and electronic accessories for themselves.
Lina Khachekian and Marisa Neuhaus have been charged with misconduct by a public official and theft.
They're accused of either keeping the items or selling them for cash, and of defrauding UNLV out of more than $292,000 between November 2011 and March 2013.
According to court documents, the two former purchasing agents for UNLV's Office of Information Technology made phony receipts and invoices to make the purchases look legitimate.
A UNLV spokesperson told KLAS-TV (http://bit.ly/1sgTTIl ) the university was insured and reimbursed for its losses, and controls have been put into place to prevent similar problems.
Both women quit their jobs last year and remain free on their own recognizance
