2 dead birds found in drained Portland reservoir

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Portland Water Bureau says two dead birds were discovered at the bottom of a reservoir where E. coli contamination was detected last month.

Portland Water Bureau spokesman Tim Hall told The Oregonian (http://is.gd/ilE9Qy ) that workers found the carcasses while cleaning Reservoir 5 on Mount Tabor.

Tests found E. coli in the city water supply over a three-day period beginning May 20. That triggered a citywide boil order that lasted one day.

Hall says the city doesn't plan any tests to see whether there's a link between the birds and the E. coli contamination in Reservoir 5.

Reservoir 1 also tested positive for E. coli, but Hall says the pipe that connects the two reservoirs was closed.
