LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Fourteen men have applied to head the Lafayette Police Department.
KATC-TV (http://bit.ly/29nO4BM ) reports applicants are seeking to replace Chief Jim Craft, who retired Jan. 31 after 39 years of service. Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux named 25-year veteran officer Reginald Thomas as interim chief.
The applicants include a former Arkansas police chief, the current University of Louisiana at Lafayette police chief and two applicants with law degrees. As for the applicants' demographics, no women applied. Eleven of the applicants are white, while three are black.
The applications will now go before the civil service board to determine eligibility. Requirements for the position include 10 years of law enforcement experience and a bachelor's degree. Those who meet the requirements will take an exam in August and participate in a job simulation exercise.
