SALT LAKE CITY — One person is dead after a motorcycle and a van collided in Provo on Monday evening. The Provo Police Department said in a press release that the accident took place at the intersection of University Avenue and 1200 S. at approximately 6:35 p.m. The department said a van was turning left when it collided with a motorcycle. Following the accident, the person on the motorcycle, identified Tuesday morning as 20-year-old Markus David Ewart of Lehi, was transferred to Utah Valley Hospital, where he died. While police were en route to the crash between the motorcycle and van, a vehicle unrelated to that crash drove into a "center island structure" near 300 S. University Avenue, obstructing traffic. Per the press release, "due to the circumstances" of that crash, police began a DUI investigation. Provo PD did not say if the crashes are linked, but discussed them both in the same press release. The driver involved in this crash was taken to Utah Valley Hospital with minor injuries. Since both crashes happened during peak traffic hours, the Provo Police Department enlisted the help of the Orem Police Department to assist with both crashes.
