When you think of Davis you might think of Lagoon: The Rocket, Cannibal and the Ferris Wheel rising up into the sky against the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. But have you ever ventured within these Wasatch Mountains or along the shorelands of the Great Salt Lake? Davis has more than 500 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding and we have it all - mountain trails, wetland trails, and island trails.

Can you identify some of our more popular trails for a chance to win two Lagoon day passes? Even if you don't win, we encourage you to go outside and hit some trails now that it's warming up outside and the trees are blooming. Take the quiz below to enter!

Buffalo Point Trail

Easy, quick hike on Antelope Island that offers great views of Great Salt Lake and the Wasatch Mountains and is doable for the whole family. Ample parking lot and restrooms.

Difficulty: Easy

Mileage: 1.0-mi.

Family-friendly: Yes

Local Recommendation: Go for sunset

Adams Canyon Trail

Beautiful trail up Adams Canyon to a 40-ft. waterfall.

Difficulty: Moderate

Mileage: 3.8-mi.

Family-friendly: Yes

Local Recommendation: Pick up your dog poop and pack it out

Wild Rose Trail

This trail is beautiful year-round and offers picturesque views of both Davis County and the Salt Lake Valley.

Difficulty: Easy

Mileage: 2.0-mi.

Family-friendly: Yes

Local Recommendation: Late spring to view the wildflowers

Frary Peak Trail

Hike to Antelope Island's highest peak: Frary Peak, at 6,520 ft., a little guy for Utah and worth the views at the top, including a book to sign your name and summit date.

Difficulty: Hard

Mileage: 6.9-mi.

Family-friendly: No - this hike is long, has a 2,335-ft elevation gain and no shade.

Local Recommendation: Start early and pack lunch to enjoy when you summit the peak

Mueller Park Trail

Mueller Park offers a variety of trails within the area. Whether you want to bike or hike, Mueller Park has options.

Difficulty: Moderate

Mileage: 4.0-mi.

Family-friendly: Yes, but please be trail conscious of those around you!

Local Recommendation: Keep going another 1.5-mi. to reach Elephant Head Rock.

Great Western Trail

Overall this trail is about 4,500 miles!! But don't worry, only 28 miles of the GWT is in Davis County. The good news is that there are multiple starting points and routes that offer a variety of difficulty and length!

Difficulty: Moderate - Difficult

Mileage: 28-mi.

Family-friendly: No

Local Recommendation: Start at the Fernwood Recreation Site

Lagoon Trail

This trail is a section on the larger, Farmington Creek Trail. It winds around the perimeter of Lagoon, offering view of the Wild Kingdom Zoo, where you'll likely see bison and elk resting in their enclosures and you'll end at the beautiful Farmington Pond. If you go during Lagoon operating hours, you'll likely hear ride operating sounds and distant screams of excitement.

Difficulty: Easy

Mileage: 2.8-mi.

Family-friendly: Yes

Local Recommendation: Go early before Lagoon opens for the day

GSL Shorelands Preserve Trail

This fun family-friendly boardwalk trail through GSL wetlands is not only a beautiful walk but an education one to boot! It highlights several bird species along the boardwalk, has standing exhibits, an observational tower, and even an audio tour you can access with your smartphone.

Difficulty: Easy

Mileage: 1.3-mi.

Family-friendly: Yes

Local recommendation: Bring binoculars for bird spotting

Farmington Creek Trail - Upper Canyon Section

The section takes you through Farmington Canyon to a beautiful waterfall and a fun rappel.

Difficulty: Moderate

Mileage: 3.1-mi.

Family-friendly: Might be a little challenging for smaller children, including the rappel at the end to the waterfall.

Local Recommendation: Go during the fall to see the beautiful leaves--trailhead parking is limited.
