AUSTIN, Texas, Oct 29, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., lived up to his reputation a Democratic Party rock star when supporters waited hours to see him at a Texas book fair.

Obama appeared at the 11th annual Texas Book Festival in Austin while on tour promoting his second book, "The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream." The festival was founded by Laura Bush when President George W. Bush was governor of Texas.

Some people were in line before 7 a.m., the Austin American-Statesman reported. Ann Cook, who drove from Dallas to hear Obama, arrived at 8 a.m. and did not get in, although she was able to get him to sign a book.

"Politics in Washington is sort of the intellectual equivalent of (professional) wrestling," Obama said. "Everybody acting tough, smacking each other, throwing chairs, but nothing really gets done."
