CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- Kyle Steffes rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns, leading North Dakota State to a 31-7 win over Southern Utah on Saturday.
Steffes scored on a 53-yard run in the first quarter and added 1-yard scoring runs in the second and fourth quarters as North Dakota State (7-1, 1-0 Great West) won its conference opener.
The third-leading rusher in program history, Steffes recorded his 18th career 100-yard game and eighth this season. He has scored 11 of North Dakota State's 31 touchdowns this season.
Steve Walker was 16-of-23 for 186 yards for the Bison, including a 32-yard touchdown to Matt Kittelson.
The Thunderbirds (3-6, 0-3) have lost five consecutive games following a 3-1 start. Southern Utah has been shut out in the first half in each of its past three games and has been outscored 76-28 in conference games.
Quarterback Wes Marshall scored the Thunderbirds lone touchdown on an 18-yard run in the third quarter.
North Dakota finished with 385 total yards, compared to 286 for Southern Utah.
