West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies (25-23-6-10) defeated the Idaho Steelheads 3-0 at the E-Center Sunday evening. Goaltender Robert Gherson stopped all 22 shots he saw to improve to 4-1 with the Grizzlies and also earned Utah's first shutout of the year.
The game was scoreless until the 2:33 mark of the third period when Jordan Hart fired in a power-play goal to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead. The Grizzlies added two insurance goals in the final 2:24 of the game with goals 18 seconds apart and 3-0 was the final.
Tom May (25) took a feed from Tim Maxwell at 18:16 of the third for his second third period insurance goal in two nights. Then 18 seconds later Scott Thauwald was credited with an empty-net goal.
Utah went 5-5 over the final 40 minutes in the game on the penalty-kill and outshot Idaho 26-22 in the game.
Rob Hennigar added his team-leading 18th multiple-point game of the year with two assists.
Utah is back on the road next week with three games in three nights starting Wednesday once again in Bakersfield. Face-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
The Grizzlies return home Tuesday, March 24 and Wednesday, March 25 when they will host the Phoenix RoadRunners. Face-off both evenings is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
