LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., Oct 13, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Police in Georgia are searching for a woman who allegedly married six men without bothering with formalities like divorce.
Shawnta McBride has been charged in Gwinnett County with five counts of bigamy and false swearing, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
While prosecutors have not said why McBride married so many times, all her husbands were born outside the United States. Four were from Ghana, one from Morocco and the sixth from London.
Two men recently charged in Georgia with multiple marriages allegedly married non-U.S. citizens to help them gain permanent residency.
All of McBride's weddings took place at the Gwinnett County Courthouse between September 2004 and June 2005. The longest interval between weddings was two months.
