Creme brulee doesn't have to be reserved for a fancy dinner out.
Just four ingredients... but oh so decadent. Crème brulee is a classic for a reason, and surprisingly easy to make at home! Cake artist Betheny Tomseth said it's her absolute favorite dessert, even more than cake! She shared how to make this restaurant-worthy treat at home.
Homemade Creme Brulee
INGREDIENTS
- 9 egg yolks
- 4 cups heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon Mexican vanilla
- 1/2 cup sugar
METHOD
- Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming (don't boil). Stir in the Mexican vanilla.
- Whisk eggs with ½ cup sugar until pale and slightly thickened.
- Slowly pour the warm cream into the egg mixture while whisking constantly.
- Pour the custard through a fine strainer to strain out any eggs that might have cooked.
- Preheat oven to 325°F.
- Divide custard into 8oz or 6oz ramekins.
- Place ramekins in a 9x13 baking dish and pour hot water halfway up the sides.
- Bake 40 minutes until the centers jiggle.
- Refrigerate at least 6 hours (or overnight).
- Add a teaspoon or so of sugar on top and torch until caramelized.
- Garnish with fruit, mint or edible flowers.
