ST. GEORGE — Firefighters battled a brush fire for several hours Sunday afternoon. It is believed that sparks from a blown tire caused the fire, authorities said.

Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief and public information officer Tyler Ames said they received a call about the fire shortly after 1 p.m., after the fire was located along I-15 near Toquerville on land owned by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Ames said it took "a little over two hours" to extinguish the fire.

"It was mainly just burning in grass and brush," Ames said, adding that the cause of the fire is "currently under investigation ... but they were able to get it all knocked down and mopped up."
