SUGAR CITY, Idaho — A semitruck caught fire after getting hit by a train in Sugar City, Idaho, Thursday.

It happened about 2 p.m. at South Railroad Avenue and 3rd West, according to Madison County Sheriff Ron Ball. Law enforcement is on the scene investigating, so specifics about what caused the crash are not yet available.

At this point, Ball knows the train hit the semi as it was crossing the railroad tracks. The train pushed the semitruck down the tracks "a little ways" before the semitruck burst into flames.

The driver and train crew escaped without any injuries, and the Madison Fire Department is trying to put out the blaze.

The area was blocked to traffic Thursday afternoon.

Ball says deputies will be there "for quite some time" while they investigate the crash. He's asking the public to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.
