HOUSTON — Real Salt Lake's kryptonite is located somewhere on or around the grounds of Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.

The Claret and Cobalt lost their fifth straight match in the Space City Saturday in a 4-1 defeat to the Dynamo, marking the most lopsided loss in the rivalry since 2017. RSL is also winless in Houston since 2018.

The teams battled at the start, but a goal from Amine Bassi in the 27th minute seemed to deflate any early energy from the road team. Houston got another goal during stoppage time to lead 2-0 at halftime and scored two more in the final 15 minutes of the match to equal its largest scoring output of the season.

All five goals on the night came from Houston, in fact, with a 49th-minute goal originally credited to Chicho Arango — in his return from a hamstring injury — changed to a Dynamo own goal.

The Arango goal would have given him the single-season RSL record scoring record with 18 goals, but the star striker will have to wait another week for another shot at making club history.

RSL returns to Utah for a two-game home stand on Sept. 18 against Dallas and Sept. 21 against Portland at America First Field.
