'Air resources are on scene': Wind whips flames as wildfire grows east of Paragonah

PARAGONAH, Iron County — A wildfire that ignited on Wednesday threatened structures in forested terrain east of Paragonah in Iron County.

Utah Fire Info first reported the Iron Peak Fire fire near the Cottonwood Mountain area, one mile north of Little Creek Road, was increasing in size due to windy conditions. Originally it was estimated at 75 acres and threatening as many as five structures.

At 6 p.m., Utah Fire Info updated the status of the fire to an estimated 400 acres, and by 7 p.m., it had increased to 800 acres.

"Air resources are on scene," the fire agency posted to social media. "The cause of the fire is under investigation."

Thursday morning Utah Fire Info's post said the cause of the fire was "natural."
