WASHINGTON, Washington County — A juvenile boy has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a man living at an apartment complex early Sunday.

About 2 a.m., Washington police received reports of shots fired at an apartment complex near 20 N. Red Trail. When officers arrived and entered the apartment, they located a man with gunshot wounds. Police began life-saving efforts until a medical team arrived and took the man to St. George Regional Hospital, where he was later declared dead.

Police identified the suspect using surveillance footage at the apartment complex, according to Greg Lovell of the Washington Police Department. A brief description was released to warn nearby residents using the reverse-911 system. Police learned the juvenile lived in the same complex and he was taken into custody shortly before 7 a.m., said Lovell.

What may have prompted the shooting was still under investigation Sunday.

"That's what we're trying to get down to right now and find out what the motive was and how it all went down. If they're related to each other or know each other and how that relationship came about," said Lovell regarding motive.

A woman was present at the time of the shooting but her relationship with either individual was unknown.
