SEATTLE — Real Salt Lake waited 99 minutes in Wednesday's game to score its first goal in a 1-1 draw against the Seattle Sounders to extend the current unbeaten streak to 12 games.

"To have a group of guys that doesn't quit, that doesn't stop, that believe that we have a chance again; if you don't believe you have a chance, there's no way you're going to score," head coach Pablo Mastroeni said. "But these guys, it's almost like they override their brains and they let their spirits take over."

In true "never give up" fashion, Andres Gomez took a shot, got the rebound, and then sent a second shot rattling through the legs of legendary Seattle keeper Stefan Frei in the 100th minute for the Colombian winger's eighth goal of an explosive breakout season.

MLS All-Star voting began Wednesday, and Gomez should have a legitimate case to be RSL's first selection since 2021 — along with Chicho Arango, Emeka Eneli and several others from the best team in the West.

RSL has come from behind to win or tie its last three matches, with Gomez being integral to all three comebacks.

His equalizer on Wednesday came with plenty of help, as well, both in a series of passes that got him the ball in the box and a VAR check just minutes before that called off a Danny Musovski goal to put Seattle up 2-0 in stoppage time.

The first goal from Seattle — and the only one that counted — came from another former RSL player, Albert Rusnak, in the 68th minute after the teams went shot-for-shot for much of a rainy contest in the Pacific Northwest.

"I've never been a part of a team that believes more than this group," Mastroeni said. "And so when we connect that with some of the tactical things that we'll work on in the next couple of days, you know, I couldn't be more proud of the group of guys"

RSL returns to Utah to face Austin FC on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. MDT at America First Field.
