OGDEN — Dwight Schrute once said, "I am ready to face any challenges that might be foolish enough to face me."

Now, the man who played everyone's favorite assistant to the regional manager will be on hand to usher Weber State University's latest graduating class into the next stages of life as the university announced that Emmy-nominated actor Rainn Wilson will deliver the 2024 commencement address.

Best known for his role as Dwight Schrute in the wildly-popular NBC sitcom "The Office," Wilson will look to entertain and inspire both the graduating class and the community with his speech.

"This year, we want to forge a new tradition where commencement serves as both a celebration of our students' achievements and an engaging community event," Weber State University President Brad Mortensen said in a statement. "An acclaimed actor and creative thinker like Rainn Wilson can offer unique and inspiring insights to our graduates and will make the day even more memorable for them."

Graduation festivities will span across two days, with general commencement scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, April 26. Individual college convocation ceremonies will be held throughout the day Friday as well as Saturday, April 27.

The university said it expects nearly 3,700 students to graduate, earning credentials from associate's degrees to doctorates.

Wilson is also set to receive an honorary degree from WSU, along with three other individuals who have made an impact in the community and state. Wilson holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University's Graduation Acting Program at the Tisch School of the Arts.

In addition to his successful career as an actor, Wilson has also worked as a writer, producer and director. He has also dabbled as an author and has published several books, including the 2023 release "Soul Boom: Why We Need a Spiritual Revolution," and is host and producer of a documentary travel series, "Rainn Wilson and the Geography of Bliss," on Peacock.

Weber State's commencement is free to attend and open to the public. The school noted that there will be no meet and greet or autograph signing opportunities.
