Halloween and Day of the Dead are often thought of as the same holiday. On the contrary, the two celebrations are entirely different. According to Logan Ward of National Geographic, "Halloween embraces terror and mischief on the last night of October, Day of the Dead festivities unfold over the first two days of November in an explosion of color and life-affirming joy."
