PROVO โ€” On the first day of the summer workout period, BYU women's basketball earned a dynamic commitment from the Class of 2024.

Whether Year 1 or Year 2, Amber Whiting isn't slowing down.

Four-star Canadian point guard Delaney Gibb committed to the Cougars Tuesday evening, the No. 48 recruit by ESPN followed one of the top recruiting classes in BYU's modern era with another of the best recruits in prep basketball in North America.

Just a year after adding three different state's Gatorade girls basketball players of the year โ€” and another via the transfer portal from Oregon โ€” Gibb's commitment signals that Whiting isn't slowing down on the recruiting trail any time soon.

If nothing else, the second-year head coach is doing exactly what she was brought in to do.

"She's doing a really good job of recruiting girls that fit her culture," BYU assistant Morgan Bailey said. "It's that defense-first kind of mentality, and a selflessness help for each other to help make each other great."

In Gibb, BYU inherits a playmaking point guard who regularly makes the right reads, including in her shooting and ability to drive to the rim and score. The 5-foot-10 Canadian international won back-to-back provincial titles at Raymond High in Alberta, Canada, en route to Miss Alberta Basketball honors as a junior while also starring for the Canadian U16 and U17 national teams, and helping Team Alberta win the gold medal at last summer's Canada Games with a 5-0 record.

As a freshman in 2020-21, Gibb averaged 17.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.4 steals per game for Timpview High before moving back to Canada with her family. Her older sister, Saige, just finished her sophomore season at Utah Valley.

Gibb totaled 18 points, five rebounds and two blocks en route to co-MVP honors at the Biosteel All Canadian Game this past spring, where she was named one of the top players in the country. She was also one of three Canadians named to the Nike Hoops Summit in Portland, Oregon, during the first year of the prestigious basketball camp featured girls basketball players.

"I play point guard, but I can also score," said Gibb, who also fielded interest from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Utah and Gonzaga, among others. "I play kind of all-around โ€” like to shoot the ball, play fast in transition and find open teammates. I think I'm just kind of a well-rounded point guard."

Next up for the standout? Defending her school's provincial titles.

"There are a lot of expectations going into my senior year, back-to-back provincial champs," Gibb said. "But putting that aside, I just want to have fun and do the things that I love."

Gibb joins a 2024 recruiting class that also features Idaho standouts Brinley Cannon, a 6-foot shooting guard from Shelley who is the younger sister of former BYU and Weber State men's basketball player McKay Cannon, and Kambree Barber, a 6-foot guard from Rigby who was the Idaho Post's All-Area Player of the Year as a junior.
