SALT LAKE CITY — Real Salt Lake made a deal on the final day of the MLS transfer window to send veteran winger Justin Meram to Charlotte FC for Brazilian forward Andre Shinyashiki, according to team sources.
Meram was a fan favorite since joining RSL in 2020, putting up eight goals and 16 assists in three years. He started 27 games last season but took on a reserve role this season with just two starts.
Thank you @JustinMeram for everything you did for #RSL ❤️💙💛

Best of luck for the rest of your career! #DaleRealhttps://t.co/3umzFQEpKd
RSL gets back a promising attacking player entering his prime in the 25-year-old Shinyashiki. He has played mostly at the left winger position during his career but also has experience as a center forward up top.
He had seven goals and three assists as the MLS Rookie of the Year for the Colorado Rapids in 2019 and had six goals for Charlotte last season while starting just eight matches. The University of Denver alumnus has yet to find the back of the net so far this season.
Shinyashiki joins an RSL attack featuring Anderson Julio, Rubio Rubin, Jefferson Savarino and newcomer Andres Gomez, who scored his first MLS goal last week. He is the third transfer addition for RSL this year, following Gomez in January and defender Brayan Vera in February; both from Colombia.
RSL has a full week with its U.S. Open Cup debut Wednesday at 8 p.m. MDT in Las Vegas and a home match against the Seattle Sounders on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. MDT.
