Few holidays carry as much weight as Valentine's Day when it comes to gift giving. Couples who've been together for several years may feel decision fatigue when it comes to choosing yet another perfect gift.

Newer relationships can be even more stressful since the expectations are higher. What you buy (or don't buy) someone on the most love-focused day of the year could potentially set the tone for the next 365 days. But no pressure.

To help you out, here's a list of tried-and-true Valentine's Day gifts that many have claimed to be the best gift they've ever gotten. And they're easier to come by than you might think.

A special, home-cooked meal

Unless you made a reservation well in advance, going out to eat at a fancy restaurant on Valentine's Day probably isn't going to happen. Then again, whipping up a delicious meal at home complete with all of your sweetheart's favorite fixings might be exactly what they want. Not only does this give you a great service opportunity, but it will probably save you a few dollars as well.

One Reddit user shared how meaningful a thoughtful, home-cooked meal could be. "In college my boyfriend made my favorite food: vegetarian enchiladas, for dinner on Valentine's Day. The boy could cook, but he was not into vegetarian foods. I walked into his apartment and the whole place smelled like baked veggies and melty cheese. It was the best."

Just don't forget to do the dishes afterward!

A spotless house

Another Reddit user weighed in on her favorite Valentine's Day gift ever — and it's something anyone can do.

"Valentine's Day, I came home to a spotless house. Totally spotless. He had cleaned the entire place, top to bottom. It meant a lot to me because he not only picked up my slack, he made it easier for me to study (I have difficulty concentrating when surrounded by clutter), and we didn't have to worry about fighting over a clean house for the next several months," she said.

It's time to say goodbye to that tattered, worn-out robe that's been hanging up in the bathroom for ages. When your sweetheart puts on one of these luxuriously soft robes, they have a tangible, daily reminder that you love them and care about their comfort.

"It's like wearing the softest blanket on cold days," a recent customer wrote. "Best gift ever!"

A collection of love notes

Anyone looking for a budget-friendly, meaningful gift that's sure to score some major points in the romance department will love this idea. Quora user Stephanie H. says the best Valentine's Day gift she ever received from her husband cost about $2.

"I went to the bathroom to start the shower, and when I pulled back the shower curtain…about a hundred balloons fell out on me," Hatcher shared. "I was surprised and a little startled. As the balloons fell out around me, I saw a card taped to the wall of the shower. A straight pin was taped to the card, with one line of text in my husband's handwriting: 'start popping.'"

Her husband had written 100 different reasons why he loved her and placed them each in separate balloons. Not only did this leave her crying happy tears on Valentine's Day, but it proved to be a gift with long-lasting results.

"I put the little notes in a beautiful wooden box, and whenever I was feeling down or stressed or we had a fight, I could pull out a couple notes and remember that he loved me," she said.
