WEST VALLEY CITY — The Salt Lake City Stars are moving to a new arena — and a new city.

Goodbye, Taylorsville.

Hello, West Valley City.

(Hey, we didn't say it was a far move.)

The Stars, the G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced Monday they will play their home games at the Maverik Center in West Valley City. The Stars had played at Salt Lake Community College's Lifetime Activities Center since returning to Utah in 2016.

"The Stars look forward to starting this new era in our new home at the Maverik Center and to enhancing the game-night experience for both our fans and players," Stars president Jonathan Rinehart said in a statement. "Based in West Valley City, the Stars will maintain our proximity to the Jazz and continue to serve an important development role for the franchise, while also growing our commitment to that community."

The team will play 24 home games at its new home venue, beginning Nov. 21 against the Santa Cruz Warriors at 7 p.m. MDT.

Maverik Center was opened in 1997 and, aside from serving as the home of the Grizzlies, has hosted multiple concerts and sporting events, including gymnastic meets and basketball tournaments. It was also the location for the ice hockey competition during the 2002 Winter Olympics.

At 12,000 seats, it also more than doubles the capacity of Lifetime Activities Center (5,000).

"We are thrilled to become the new home for the Stars and provide the community with another top-tier professional sports experience as we continue to optimize the Maverik Center and create innovative fan experiences," said Kevin Bruder, Centennial Management Group CEO.
